New chapter in life of one of North Wales’s oldest businesses (b2 business systems Ltd)
Digital technology has brought a new chapter into the life of Holywell printing company, W Williams & Son Printers, which recently celebrated its 150th anniversary.
W Williams & Son Printers, which has just signed a deal for two Xerox digital printing presses, started off in the days of hot metal and Letterpress printing.
The contract with Deeside office equipment suppliers, “b2 business systems”, is worth £250,000 over five years and will see Williams using some of the most up-to-date printing technology.
“We have seen lots of changes over the years, it’s true,” said Glyn Williams. His father, Richard, bought the family firm 40 years ago from its original owners, who were also called Williams.
“It meant we didn’t even have to change the name,” said Glyn. “The business first opened in 1858 and was always run by the same family until my father bought it from the grandson of the original owner, Mr. Arnold Williams.”
Glyn believes its ongoing success is helped by the fact that they haven’t let the business grow too big, so they are still able to provide the sort of personal service many customers expect.
“That said, we do have companies and large corporate customers who expect the best and so it’s important that we keep up to date with any changes in the industry.”
The company currently operates traditional lithographic printing presses alongside a modern, digital, facility.
“The lithograph is great for long runs – we do up to a million sheets a run – but the digital will print, fold and stitch all in one process. Each system has its advantages and so we’re able to offer our customers the best of both worlds,” said Glyn, who lives in Holywell with his wife, Susan, and their two daughters, Hannah and Lowri.
W Williams & Son employs five people at 38a High Street, near Holywell Leisure Centre.
Glyn added: “We’re still on the original site, but we had it re-built 25 years ago. We had to update the building – just as we’ve now updated the technology.
b2’s most popular products are multi-functional devices, which copy, print and scan using a single machine. The deal sees one of Flintshire’s oldest companies dealing with one of its modern success stories.
b2 business systems was founded in 1991 by owner and Managing Director, Paul Rutt. It supplies Xerox office equipment to customers across North Wales and the North West. It is currently holder of the Xerox Concessionaire of the Year award for Wales and the North of England.
b2 also has divisions providing IT system design and installation, and office supplies. It employs 27 at offices at Deeside Industrial Park and Parc Menai, Bangor.
Paul said: “We are delighted to be doing business with W Williams & Son Printers. It is a fine long established business with a deserved reputation for excellence in its field.
“I would love to think that b2 could follow in its footsteps and still be keeping customers happy in another 150 years!”
